Woman putting on her Invisalign trayAt first glance, Invisalign may sound too good to be true: clear, pain-free aligners that can leave you with straight teeth in less than a year? You may have questions about how Invisalign work, and whether it does at all. Newton Dental Associates is happy to answer all of your Invisalign questions.

What Does Invisalign Do?

Invisalign uses clear, plastic trays to gently and gradually move your teeth. Instead of visiting your orthodontist for wire adjustments every few weeks, you will receive new trays as your treatment progresses. The trays will be molded to fit where your teeth will be at that particular stage. Trays used for Invisalign Teen will come with a blue indicator that will wear if the appliance is worn properly for 22 hours per day. In addition to straightening teeth, Invisalign can be used to correct bite issues, spacing, and crowding.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign works in the series of trays. Every one to two weeks depending on your treatment plan, you will receive a new set of trays with the teeth slightly straighter than the previous set. Your teeth will move about 0.25 mm for each set of trays. Since you will be getting new trays regularly, your teeth will be able to move quicker than waiting for the next appointment. You’ll also be able to keep up with proper dental care, popping the trays out when it’s time to brush and floss without the obstacles of brackets and wires.

Does Invisalign Produce Results?

Yes! Most Invisalign cases can be treated in under one year. By implementing Dr. Anna Berik’s innovative Berik Acceleration Method, you’ll be smiling bright with your new, perfect smile in as little as four months. Once your treatment is complete,  all you’ll need to do to maintain their location is wear retainers, usually just at night. This is normal after any form of teeth straightening.
